What is the Antichrist? Part Two

Antichrist Denies that Jesus is the Christ through Deception

The devil and his representatives claim that the historical Jesus was not the Christos, was not the “Anointed One” promised by the Father in the Old Testament and made flesh by means of the miraculous virgin birth of Christ. To an “antichrist,” Jesus may have been a very special Jew, a great prophet, a moral leader, or an imposter who was born of fornication as implied by the Jews in Jn 8.41, but he was not the Christos, the God man about which Isaiah wrote:

Isaiah 9:6–7 (KJV 1900) 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, To order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice From henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

The entire bible testifies to a King who would descend from David yet possess divine authority as evidenced in his ability to decisively resolve the sins of His people, deliver them from their enemies and write his words upon their hearts.

Daniel predicted the time of the advent of Messiah Prince [Dan 9.25], Ahaz was given a prediction that a virgin would give birth to a child whose name would mean God with Us [Isa 7]. Matthew interpreted Isaiah 9 as a reference to the coming of a King unto Israel [Matt 4]. In this same 4th chapter of Matthew Jesus begins to represent himself as the Messiah, the Christ, as he continued to do from that point forward until his crucifixion. Jesus was finally crucified because he claimed to be the Messiah, the Christ predicted in the OT scriptures:

Matthew 26:63–66 (KJV 1900) 63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. 64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. 65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. 66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

The antichrist denies that Jesus is the Christ.

1 John 4:3 (KJV 1900) 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

The antichrists who precede the future Antichrist are those operating in the sphere of the spirit of the Antichrist. The spirit of antichrist could not exist until there had first come the actual Christ. This spirit was present in the world during the first century when 1 John was written.

There are a variety of ways that a person can represent the spirit of Antichrist:

  • By teaching that Jesus is not God. This is why Jesus was crucified: because of his claim to be the Messiah. This is the most offensive truth to Lucifer. Just all of history revolves on the central point of the glory of God, the central feature of the Spirit of antichrist is the denial of that glory and giving it to another who would be God.
    • Isaiah 42:8 (KJV 1900) 8 I am the Lord: that is my name: And my glory will I not give to another, Neither my praise to graven images.
  • By denying the Trinity, the triune nature of God. If there is no Trinity, then we do not know exactly who Jesus was.
    • If Jesus is not equal to the Father, then who was Jesus? An antichrist will allow Christ to be God Jr. but not El Shaddai; a Jewish Prophet, but not the King of the Jews, a moral leader but not the Righteous Judge.
  • By killing and attempting to kill the apostles of the first century and disciples down to this very day who proclaimed that Jesus is the Christ
    • Revelation 17:6 (KJV 1900) 6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

The Antichrist is a Deceiver

2 John 7 (KJV 1900) 7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

This means that the antichrists in our midst deny Christ but do not appear to do so. One of the synonyms for deceiver [NT:4108] is seducer. The English definition for the word seducer is as follows:

1: to persuade to disobedience or disloyalty 2: to lead astray usually by persuasion or false promises (Merriam Webster Free Dictionary)

The seducer has as his objective the corruption of another person. Lies are his method, beginning with the impersonation of a trustworthy individual. The seducing spirit promises something that someone wants and uses that promise to get what he wants.

This is the strategy used with Eve in the garden of Eden: the serpent denied that sin led to death, calling God a liar. He then promised that disobedience to God was the first step to spiritual evolution: “Ye shall be as gods.” In all of this he represented himself as a better “god” to her than Jehovah.

It is critical that we understand this concept of deception today. Most people get caught up into appearances: the attractiveness of the teacher, his teaching style, his personality, the size of the ministry, the music, the social life of the church; and fail to listen closely to what the teacher is saying. This is how spiritual deception occurs. Before she knew it, Eve was evicted from the garden: in a corrupted body, married to a corrupted husband, living in a corrupted world and mourning a murdered son.

Do not allow spiritual laziness to cost you your spiritual destiny, or perhaps send you to Hell if you are not born again. Pay attention to what the teacher is saying. Check what is being said with the bible. Ask questions: what does this church believe: do not accept vague answers and one-page doctrinal statements.

Pay attention to your prayer life and listen to what God is telling you in your daily bible reading

Stop looking for social life and entertainment in the church. God has not called any true man of God to entertain you and keep you excited. Accurate bible teaching is not always exciting. But, on the other hand, Hell is going to be very exciting!
