Gino Jennings is my favorite false teacher. He is fearless: he is not afraid to confront difficult issues or difficult people. I agree with him on many social issues as well as issues in today’s church. I appreciate his stand upon biblical manhood, womanhood and the family. Although I would not express myself in the same fashion as he, I resonate with his scriptural positions on these issues.
I like Gino Jennings. I don’t know him personally but he seems to be a great guy. We’re from the same hometown and the same neighborhood. In spite of these things, it is a fact that Gino Jennings is a false teacher. I say this because he checks all the boxes that identify a false teacher: First, he has a false Jesus, second, he has a false gospel and third, he has a false Bible.
First of all, Gino Jennings proclaims a false Jesus. Since he does not believe in the Trinity, the Jesus he claims to believe in is not the Jesus of the Bible. Just as the Muslim Jesus is not the Jesus of Scripture because they believe that God has no son, and the Jehovah Witness Jesus is not the Jesus of the Scripture, because they claim that Jesus is not God, neither is Gino’s Jesus who is, according to him, the ONLY member of the Godhead. This is the same “oneness Pentecostalism” that is T.D. Jakes problem. The Bible teaches that there is one God who subsists in three Persons. The Father is not the Son and the neither the Father nor Son are the Spirit. Each Person of the Trinity possesses the same essence and the same attributes. The Scriptures repeatedly distinguish the Members of the Godhead.
Matt 3:16-17
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Second of all, Gino Jennings proclaims a false gospel. Jennings teaches that in order to be saved one MUST be baptized in Jesus’ name. To believe in Jesus: his blood, his atoning sacrifice for sin on the cross, to Jennings is not sufficient for salvation. It is absolutely necessary to be baptized according to his formula in order to go to heaven. Biblically, salvation is not based on human works of any kind, no matter how spiritual they may be or how sincerely they may be performed [1 Cor 15.1-3; Titus 3.5]. Jesus himself did not baptize; the apostle Paul almost never baptized [John 4.1-2; 1 Cor 1.17]. This is because water baptism is a ritual that illustrates spiritual realities that transpired in and for the believer at the new birth. There is no saving power in water baptism, regardless of the number of names in the baptismal formula.
1 Cor 1:17
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
Finally, Apostle Jennings uses a Bible as thick as the old New York City telephone directory. It contains obscure books such as Ecclesiasticus and 2 Exodus. There are 66 books in the completed canon of Scripture. The Holy Spirit revealed these books to the church. They do not contradict one another and affirm the same truth from the same divine source. Unauthorized books such as the apocrypha and the pseudepigrapha have been excluded for a reason. When preachers include these spurious books, they too have a reason.
I said at the beginning that Gino Jennings is my favorite false prophet. Why is that? The Bible said that in the last days there would be a spirit so deceptive that even the saints would be tempted to believe it. This false spirit can present itself as a spirit of artificial righteousness, a counterfeit holiness so believable that only those with an adequate understanding of the Bible can hope to resist it.
2 Cor 11:13-15
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Mark 13:22
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
I enjoy the preaching of Geno Jennings the way I enjoy pigtails and rice: I like it, but eventually it will kill me. No matter how we feel about a pastor or teacher, we must value Christ, the Gospel, and the Scriptures more.
